Red Leicester Choir and Greenshoots Ceilidh Orchestra

On Friday the 15th of May, Red Leicester Choir and Greenshoots Ceilidh Orchestra will be coming together to bring you an evening of song and dance, in aid of the British Red Cross. Come along and enjoy the fun of an energetic ceilidh, and treat yourself to a great performance of the choir’s varied repertoire!

A Choral Singer’s Workshop

Guthlaxton College, Wigston, Leicester

A one day workshop aimed at anyone interested in improving their choral singing technique. The day’s content will be suitable for choral singers of all abilities and experience.

The day will be spent studying a varied selection of pieces from the European Sacred Music (ed.John Rutter) (OUP) – from vibrant Italian to romantic Teutonic and piquant Gallic – a diverse range of works which will prove both stimulating and rewarding to sing. And includes….

– A variety of warm-up exercises;
– Some fun things to loosen up;
– More technical challenges;
– Exploring ways of developing aural awareness to improve singing in tune;
– Discussion about rehearsal techniques.

Winter Warmer

Our Winter Warmer is fast approaching!

On Friday the 19th of December, Red Leicester will be holding their Winter Warmer party to raise funds for the choir. It will take place at the Secular Hall, starting at 7.30pm, and tickets cost £5 (£3 conc/children).

Bring some food to share, and enjoy an evening of singing and party games!

LOROS Light Up a Life

Tomorrow afternoon, some of the members of Red Leicester will be leading the Christmas carols at LOROS Hospice’s annual Light Up a Life service. The service begins at 4.30pm on Sunday the 7th of December, and takes place in the hospice grounds. In addition to the carols, the Christmas tree lights are switched on, and visitors are encouraged to remember the lives of their loved ones. More details can be found here.

Ernest Gimson’s Blue Plaque

Red Leicester will be singing a couple of songs at the unveiling of Ernest Gimson’s Blue Plaque at the Belmont Hotel in New Walk on Tuesday the 11th of November. The plaque will be revealed at 7.45pm.

Ernest Gimson was a major figure in the Arts and Crafts movement. A renowned architect and furniture designer, he lived with his family at the house that the hotel now occupies.
