Lots happening this Spring!

Red Leicester have been pretty busy recently, with plenty more coming up in May and June.

On the 24th of April we held our (usually) annual fundraiser, joining forces with the Greenshoots Ceilidh Orchestra to raise money for the choir and for the Red Cross appeal for the earthquake in Haiti. It was a great success, and we raised over £500 for the appeal. A big thank you to everyone who came along and danced with us!

Some members of our choir have also been very busy organising the third annual Leicester Sing for Water, which takes place on Sunday 6th June in Bede Park. Lots of Red Leicester singers will be attending to raise money for WaterAid – if you’re interested in singing with us, take a look at leicestersingforwater.org.uk.

Red Leicester will be one of 25 choirs singing for 25 minutes each at the LOROS 25th Anniversary concert on Saturday 26th June, at Longslade Community College in Birstall.

We are also busy preparing our songs for the National Street Choir Festival in Sheffield, which takes place from the 9th to the 11th of July. This is a great event, bringing together choirs from all over the UK, and we’re looking forward to performing in the concert, busking on the streets of Sheffield, and taking part in workshops.

Singing and dancing!

On Saturday 24th April Red Leicester Choir and Greenshoots Ceilidh Orchestra will be joining forces again to raise money for the Red Cross’ appeal for Haiti. Last year’s ceilidh was great fun (and the hall has fabulous acoustics!). Come along for food, a performance by the choir, and of course plenty of dancing. 7.30pm, Ukrainian Hall, Fosse Road South, Leicester. Ticket prices TBA.

From Archery to Armada

On Saturday 13th March Red Leicester will be performing the song ‘Greensleeves’ at the Space Centre in Leicester, as part of the event ‘From Archery to Armada: Bringing history to life in the Space Centre’, in aid of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, organised by the Society for Intercultural Understanding Leicester (SICUL). 6.30pm, National Space Centre, Exploration Drive, Leicester LE4 5NS. Tickets cost £25 including a meal.

Raise Your Banners 2009

A fair few of us will be travelling up to Bradford this weekend to enjoy Raise Your Banners Festival of Political Song. Lots of concerts, a book fair, singing at the Cenotaph, workshops and of course our own seven-minute performance slot await us!

Red Leicester will be singing in the afternoon concert on Saturday the 7th of November, which starts at 1pm in Bradford Cathedral. Tickets cost £5. If you’re in the area or performing in another choir that day, we’d love to see you.

New Members’ Evening tonight

Tonight, Wednesday the 23rd of September, Red Leicester Choir will be hosting a New Members’ Evening – this is your chance to come along and hear us sing, learn a song or two, and meet our members. We are an open-access, no auditions choir, and would love to see you there.

Wednesday 23rd September, 7.30-9.30pm
At the Secular Hall, Humberstone Gate
