No rehearsal tonight – a gig instead!

Tonight there will be no rehearsal at the Secular Hall; instead, we’ll be at the Musician (just round the corner in Clyde St) supporting Roy Bailey! Doors open at 8pm, and tickets cost £10. The event is in support of the Lord Mayor’s Forget-Me-Not Appeal.

We Are One Leicester

On Sunday 10th October, Red Leicester will be singing on stage as part of We Are One Leicester, a celebration of unity and diversity in our city. Billy Bragg and Reverend and the Makers will also be appearing at the event in Humberstone Gate (near the big screen), between 1pm and 4pm. Wear lime green to show your support.

Two performances for Leicester Secular Society

On Sunday 10th October, some members of the choir will be singing to start and end the proceedings at David Grove’s lecture to Leicester Secular Society, ‘Marx & Morris – why we need them more than ever’. 6.30pm at the Secular Hall in Humberstone Gate. Admission free.

Then on Thursday 14th October, Red Leicester will be singing before Paul Rogers’ talk ‘The war on terror nine years on’ to Leicester Secular Society. Paul Rogers is Professor of Peace Studies at Bradford University. 7pm at the Secular Hall in Humberstone Gate. Admission free.

New members’ evening tonight

Don’t forget, tonight is Red Leicester Choir’s evening designed to give potential new members a taste of what being in the choir is like. We’ll be performing some songs and teaching a few too. If you think you’d enjoy singing with us, please come along; it will run from 7.30 to 9.30pm, and takes place at our usual rehearsal venue, the Secular Hall, Humberstone Gate (opposite Sainsbury’s).

Thinking of trying Red Leicester?

Term has started, which means choir rehearsals have started again too – every Wednesday at 7.30pm in the Secular Hall, as usual! It was great to get singing again yesterday, and to meet some new members. If you’re thinking about giving Red Leicester a go, we’re having a New Members’ Evening on Wednesday the 22nd of September. This is something we do every year, and although we welcome new members all year round, we like to have a special rehearsal in the autumn term that acts as a taster for anyone who fancies singing with us. There will be a chance to hear songs from across our repertoire, and of course to join in and learn one or two of them!

Everyone is welcome; we are an open-access socialist choir with no auditions, and you don’t need to be able to read music – some of our members do, but many learn by ear.
