The following is a short selection of comments from Festival participants:

“Such a lovely weekend, well done Leicester choir for such a fantastic event, one of my favourites in the 12 years I have been attending”.

“This was the best street choirs I have attended -having been for about 6 yrs- also a lovely city, very friendly and helpful people and well organised.”

“My first event, I absolutely loved it, so powerful . The event was fab, friendships were formed, can’t wait for next year.”

“You have proved that you can have sequins AND socialism!”

“The organisation was superb. You thought of everything. Well done committee.”

“The faultless organisation made it very easy to enjoy the whole event, from start to finish.”

“One of the best ever. Everything ran like clockwork, and the hard work that must have gone into the planning and execution was very much appreciated.”

“Volunteers always helpful, patient and friendly.”

“The volunteers were great and so well-organised. Particularly impressed to be met off the train!”

“The volunteers were lovely .”

“It was clear from the people in Leicester how much they were enjoying having the festival in their city. And what a great city it is!  We had not been there before and loved it.”

“The feeling of solidarity during a particularly difficult time politically was uplifting. Fantastic to be with people of passion and principle from across the UK.”

“You brought Street Choirs back to what it should be all about. The political message shone through it all. It was brilliant to be there.”

“The Curve for the concert was a fantastic venue, perfect.”

“Friday evening entertainment was really good. High quality, varied, diverse – showcasing Leicester!”

“Songs for mass sing well-chosen and taught. Lovely songs, simple enough for all to learn in a short time.”

“The massed sing was fantastic. A great choice of songs, which all meant something, and a lovely introduction by your deputy Mayor.”

“The rehearsal for the mass sing and the performance itself were the best I have experienced in many years of attending the national street choirs festival. It was the best organised, with the best venues, the best songs, and the best musical direction.”

“Busking – in the light of the referendum vote, being on the streets of Leicester singing songs of welcome to immigrants and songs of struggle and solidarity about the NHS and working people’s organisation felt very positive. On the whole busk stops were well chosen to reach a range of audiences.”

“Political choirs’ contributions at the Saturday concert were superb.”

“So hard to choose from the fantastic selection of workshops – I’d have loved to do at least half a dozen of them!”

“I really enjoyed the walk around radical Leicester. What an inspired idea for a workshop!”
